5/2/2023 0 Comments Surface laptop 15Jefferson Starship's "Jane" sounded strong and accurate as the high notes blasted from the laptop's speakers. There's no included audio adjustment utility, but you won't need one. I nodded my head as the bass thumped and the percussion instruments (which can sometimes get lost) rattled clearly in the background. I smiled as I sat back and listened to Frank Ocean's serene vocals on the morbid track "Swim Good" as his voice came from the Surface Laptop 3, filling one of our medium-size conference rooms. Pinching and pulling images to zoom in and out also functioned with the speed you'd expect from a machine this costly. Touch-screen gestures, including swiping in from the left and right sides, and scrolling through web pages, worked quickly on the Surface Laptop 3. Colors of videos and websites retained their color when I viewed the screen from 40 degrees to the left and right, but glare from the glossy, reflective panel slightly obscured details. We saw even brighter screens in the Dell XPS 15 (418 nits and 626 nits in the 4K and 4K OLED versions, respectively), the 15-inch MacBook Pro (403 nits) and the 4K HDR ThinkPad X1 Carbon (432 nits). The Surface Laptop 3 emits up to 380 nits of brightness, which makes it bright enough to leap over the 346-nit laptop average and the 1080p version of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon (336 nits) - but not other panels. Watching the final Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker trailer on the Laptop, I noticed beautifully cold blues in an ice fortress, opulent gold tones from C-3PO's body and rich browns in Chewbacca's fur. ![]() We saw more colorful screens in the XPS 15 (239% for 4K OLED, 210% for 4K) and the 4K HDR ThinkPad X1 Carbon panel (144%). Of the laptops we're comparing it with, the closest scores we saw were the 109% mark from the ThinkPad X1 Carbon's 1080p screen and the 114% score from the 15-inch MacBook Pro. ![]() Our colorimeter rates the Surface Laptop 3 as producing 101% of the sRGB spectrum, which might sound like a lot, but it's still less than the 131% premium laptop average.

In my honest opinion a better, easier way is to just boot to a Linux live CD like Knoppix. So before you waste your time running format : /FS:FAT32, run format : /FS:FAT32 /Q. ![]() Run the same command with the /Q switch for a quick format and it gives you the "too big" error immediately. ![]() Here's what really doesn't make sense, though. It would have been nice for the system to do a simple check when when the command was first launched so I wouldn't go to sleep thinking I'd wake up in the morning to a fully formatted FAT32 80GB drive. The reason? "The volume is too big for FAT32". The annoying thing was that it took an hour to fail. While the built-in command line method in Windows 7 Ultimate ( format : /FS:FAT32) started running without a problem, it failed to complete. It is only capable of quick formats (no zeroing/checking), but it is very fast. One good solution is the command-line program fat32format.exe available from Ridgecrop Consultants or their gui. Note that although Windows will not format a drive greater than 32GB as FAT32, it will mount such a drive formatted elsewhere.įormatting a >32GB FAT32 volumes on Windows. The Windows 32GB limit for formatting FAT32 volumesĪfter performing an experiment in formatting a 60GB "Video" partition to use with a PS3, I have discovered that Windows 2000 and later have an artificial limitation in formatting FAT32 partitions greater than 32GB (though they will mount any valid FAT32 partition). This option should still be in the Format GUI window, but it is not. Formatting FAT32 volumes on the command line 4/30/2023 0 Comments Intel control panel download![]()

Please do not split your cohosts into left and right in your audio, unless you're doing a special dramatization that requires positional audio. Stereo takes up double the space of an equal-quality mono file, because it has twice the tracks/channels. The default MP3 encoding setting is at the rate of 128 kbps.Ĭhoose carefully whether you want to release your podcast episodes as stereo or mono. But Cliff remains strongly opinionated against LAME since he prefers CBR, and I'll explain that later.Īudio bitrates are measured in kilobits per second (kbps), which are different from kilobytes (KB). Cliff Ravenscraft once welcomed me on Podcast Answer Man #125 for us to discuss bitrates. Fraunhofer is licensed and is included with high-end software, but can be used free with iTunes. LAME is free and open-source and it's what Audacity uses. How can they both be the best? Because they're designed to do different things. LAME and Fraunhofer are both the best MP3 encoders! The two most-popular MP3 encoders are LAME and Faunhofer. It's the way a computer compresses an audio or video file to make it smaller and thus easier to transfer (or fit within limited hosting such as LibSyn). “Codec” is short from compression/decompression. This time, I'm talking about compressing your files to save space but still maintain the highest quality you can. In The Audacity to Podcast™, episode 5, I shared about compressing your audio to get a better, more evened-out sound. In case you don't already have it, use the latest Audacity version, which improves a lot of things over older versions, adds better compatibility, and also made it easier to change your encoder options. Instead, I recommend exporting to WAV and using iTunes to create you podcast MP3s. ![]() This is still the preferred method for music, but may produce incompatible podcast files. Since recording this episode, I discovered problems with podcasts using the below method. I get a little more technical and use a lot of numbers and abbreviations, so hold on, but I hope it's worth it. Stop making crappy MP3s with Audacity and LAME! I tell you how to encode MP3s the way LAME was designed to, so you get a great audio quality and small file size. 4/30/2023 0 Comments One password free![]() Password managers also make your passwords more convenient to use. ![]() They use strong encryption to protect your passwords, and they offer a variety of features to keep your passwords safe.
